There's something about a 90th anniversary that brings out the best in everyone, and the reunion at Camp Lakeland, July 2, brought out the best of spirit, sunshine and memories for the 300 campers and staff who
gathered to celebrate the past, present and the future.
Many traveled across state and country for the event. Former director Moose (Morris) Siegel met campers whose grandchildren were now attending the camp. Siblings Jeanette Gorankoff Adelson(NYC), Louis Gorankoff(NYC) and Sylvia Gorankoff
Bigelsel (Rochester) toured the original Angola site, recounting their days as campers in the 40's. Jerry Rein (camper- '36) searched valiantly for his name which he painted over his bunk.
Everyone had a story to tell and to share. Sam Kaiser, now a Williamsville thespian, recalled inventing Moey and Myer adventures in the 40's to keep his campers settled. Gene Chertock remembered being given the name "Happy turtle",
for his achievements in nature studies.
The day included an impressive tour of the new Franklinville site, including the new swimming pool, waterfront activities and new fully equipped cabins.
Thanks for the memories Camp Lakeland. we're looking forward to celebrating your 100th.
